BeijingBeijing Automobile Works is a manufacturer of military vehicles that builds a few Toyota like models, but recently started developing its own brand image.
Beijing Automobile works was established in 1958, which was the second automaker in China at that time. Then she was incorporated with Beijing Motorcycle Works in 1987 to form Beijing Automobile and Motorcycle United Company (BAM). In 2001, based on the latest organization model, she merged with Beijing auto assembly plant to form Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd (BAW).
The company, which has a long history of manufacturing light off-road vehicles and trucks, is now considered as one of the important automakers in Beijing. Her business scope includes: developing, producing and selling light off-road vehicles, trucks, and other special vehicles.
BAW, headquartering in Chaoyang district, Beijing, has two separate plants, one in Chaoyang district,the other in Shunyi district. The capacity is about 100,000 units per year. Her comprehensive distribution and service networks cover the whole Chinese market, including every provinces, cities and municipalities.
Till now, BAW has more than 150 different models vehicles including off-road vehicle/sport utility vehicle, commercial vehicles and special vehicles. Domestic and foreign customers and Chinese army use these products. Especially the amphicar, the special vehicles, which is developed by BAW, is for military customers to enhance Chinese army. There are three different models, 0.5t, 0.75t and 1t.
BAW has set up the quality control system, and has passed ISO9001-2000, the civilian quality limits and GJB9001-2000, the military quality limits.
Guided by the market, BAW has already changed the management conception, carried out the structure reform and organized a high efficiency manager group. After the success in planned economy and the challenge in market economy, BAW is ready for the new market.
The goal of BAW is to develop the quality and service by taking the lasted management and technology, so as to restore off-road vehicle culture and make its name on light truck market.
History
In 1953 The first accessory factory, invested by the nation was established, producing accessories, such as carburetor.
In 1958 The first accessory factory was renamed as Beijing Automobile Works. Mr. Zhu De, one of founders of P.R China and the chef commander of People’s Liberation Army, write the name.
In 1984 combined with AMC, an American carmaker, to organize the first joint venture company, Beijing Jeep, Ltd. (BJC), producing middle and top class off road vehicle.
In 1987 combined with Beijing motorcycle company to organize the organize the Beijing Automobile and Motorcycle United company (BAM), producing lower and middle class off-road vehicles.
In 1994 Beijing Automobile Assembly (BAA) was established, producing special light off-road vehicle.
In 1997 Cooperated with other 99 Chinese companies to form Beijing Foton, one of the biggest carmakers.
On September 28th, 2001 combined with Beijing Automobile Assembly to organize the Beijing Automobile Works Co., Ltd. (BAW)
Glory
As one of the oldest Chinese carmakers, having the famous national auto brand, Beijing Brand, BJ212/121/122 series, BAW has produced more than 1 million vehicles, supporting the development of economy and national defense.
In 1958 Chairman Mao inspected Jinggangshan Brand passenger car. Mr. Zhu De rode the Jinggangshan Brand passenger car. Mr. Zhu De, inscribed the name for Beijing Automobile Works. Mr. Deng Xiaoping visited Beijing Automobile Works.
In 1961 trial-produced BJ210 military off-road vehicle.
In 1965 produces BJ212 off-road vehicles.In 1982 trial-produced and produced BJ122 light truck and BJ620 light bus.
In 1986 trial-produced and produced BJ752 passenger car.
